2023 DHIAchania TH

The Panhellenic Festival of Inclusive Culture DEAF AND HEARING PEOPLE IN ACTION aims to increase communication between the Deaf and Hard of Hearing with other individuals, to promote cultural values, encouragement of dual career in sports and fine arts; healthy lifestyles and social solidarity.

The thematic tribute of 2024 focused on the pilot application of a new activity that includes artistic, sportive and cognitive challenges, accessible to all. The challenges that have been set by the affiliated partners and their experts, concerned the central old town of Chania and referred to:

(1) architecture and characteristics of churches that were built in different time periods, from Roman empire and Byzantium until recently
(2) Monuments of Archaic origin or interest, with high significance concerning cultural heritage empowerment in the region
(3) Public Buildings of cultural or social interest
(4) basic information about the local sociopolitical history
(5) basic information about the local customs and traditions
(6) tricky challenges, fitness, refined movement or special skills relevant.

The treasure hunt pilot activity included local disabled and typical youth with the support and guidance of DHIAfest local team and Red Cross volunteers.

The project reached full success and had a positive feedback giving an insight about the facets of the project that need to be further developed.

THE TEAM OF DHIAfest 2023

This year the festival had a different approach and closed a large cycle of actions, initiatives and activities with a positive impression and optimism influencing and sometimes challenging the local communities to approach integration policies in different ways that work constructively for everyone.

This year we have closed 10 years since the day of the foundation of the festival, 20 Years since the Foundation of the Club for the Dissemination of Sign Language. This year's situation was also an occasion to renew the consortium with more commitments.

The coordinators of the festival are: ASSOCIATION OF THE DISABLED Chania, Sign Language Promotion Club, General Secretariat of Sports, Institute of Nutritional Studies and Research and the Cultural Organization of Macedonia Thrace ESAEI EN ROI, the last of the topics it has done. original material and the central archive from 2013 to present.

This year the agencies were not as involved in the implementation process as in the preparation phase, so participation was based on the degree of response of the citizens and the free will to respond to our invitation. Unfortunately it turned out that the free invitation and unplanned organization of groups did not work well highlighting the social dilemma of ACTIVE CITIZEN voluntary and guided action.

So the treasure game is established every year, promising the members of the steering committee to work hard for the coming year before 2023 comes out.

Our goals are
- To improve exploratory learning and discovery of facts through the treasure game by involving cities from other countries with expatriate Greeks
- To make a special tribute every year to a prominent personality in the field of Special Education with an emphasis on the issues of deafness and hearing loss
- To bring back post-Covid artistic activities in local monuments and open-air theater stages of the archaic, Roman or Byzantine type

Therefore, we sincerely thank everyone who supported us this year in particular
