Sustainable Practice Explorer

This badge recognizes active and self-directed exploration within the Open Space learning environment.

Participants who earn this badge have independently engaged with at least two thematic self-learning stations and demonstrated deeper reflection and integration of the content into their professional youth work practice.

The Sustainable Practice Explorer badge validates:
  • Self-directed learning competence
  • Curiosity and thematic depth
  • Cross-topic reflection
  • Integration of wellbeing and sustainability perspectives
  • Commitment to applied professional development

This badge builds on the completion of at least two thematic badges from the following:
  • Ikigai – Meaning & Engagement
  • Scientific Foundations – Wellbeing & Sustainability
  • Circle of Courage – Resilience & Needs-Based Practice
  • Gaia Education – SDGs & Inner Sustainability
  • Digital Footprint – Awareness to Action

All five stations were designed as Open Space self-learning environments.
Participants were invited to:
  • Choose topics based on interest and relevance
  • Explore materials independently
  • Engage in peer dialogue
  • Connect theory with practice
  • Reflect individually

This badge acknowledges learners who move beyond surface participation and engage in deeper thematic exploration.

The Open Space format requires:
  • Intrinsic motivation
  • Self-regulation
  • Reflective capacity
  • Professional curiosity

Estimated Time: Approx. 2–3 hours total engagement. (minimum)

Participants must complete:
  • At least two full station badges
  • The required reflections for both
  • The additional meta-reflection (see below)

Exploration precedes transformation.

Write a structured reflection addressing:
a) Thematic Integration
  • What connections do I see between the two chosen themes?
  • Where do they complement each other?
  • Where do they challenge each other?
b) Professional Insight
  • What changed in my understanding of sustainable youth work?
  • Which perspective felt most transformative?
  • Where do I see new clarity?
c) Practical Application
  • What combined insights can I realistically implement?
  • What is one cross-theme idea I will test?
  • What structural barriers might I face?
d) Self-Directed Learning
  • How did the Open Space format influence my learning?
  • What motivated me to choose these topics?
  • How can I cultivate this exploratory mindset in young people?
