"Double Check" is a youth exchange where will be discussed and shared good practices on how to avoid fake news and disinformation. The issue of disinformation and particularly fake news have lately become infamously popular in the world. It has a huge power to change how young people think, behave and feel. Although, the notion of fake news and disinformation dates back many tens of centuries, in the 21st century it has acquired a new powerful tool – internet, that made it even more influential and encompassing. Social networks and social messaging have even further enhanced the spread of fake news.

The groups most susceptible of falling for fake news are seniors and Youth. In our project "Double Check" we aim to help young participants learn how to improve their skills in recognizing disinformation from facts, manipulation from objective reality and develop their critical thinking. The EU is founded on universal values like freedom, democracy or respect for human rights and yet many of these essential values get downtrodden everyday by the unscrupulous manipulators. Europeans can do better and especially the young ones can lead by example. They just need the proper knowledge, useful tips and practised sensitivity to disinformation and manipulation.

The project aims to increase their knowledge in this area, it seeks to help them define the major notions and comprehend them, understand the implications of fake news and disinformation in real life, recognize the disparate forms disinformation can take. Participants will learn about the methods of how to debunk fake news and how to counter them. During various thematic workshops we will use different approaches, techniques, NFL methods to get participants more involved about the main topic of the project exchange- disinformation, fake news and manipulation. Daily feedback received from the participants themselves will serve as an important guidance tool for our customisation of workshops and teching processes to fully develop their potential and grasp the chosen project’s subject matters.
