Inhalt

What would change if we saw competence as something emerging between us, not inside us?

In this playlist, you will explore competence as a relational, evolving practice across individuals, groups, and systems. You will reflect on values, attitudes, skills, and knowledge, and consider how subjectification, collaboration, and systemic conditions shape intercultural engagement—highlighting competence as shared, contextual, and central to ethical, inclusive, and democratic cultural life.

Aufgabe Nr. 1

Group Competence

How might you identify group intercultural or transcultural competence through the CultureComp Framework?
In this task, you will explore competence as a shared, relational process that emerges within groups rather than residing solely in individuals. How do your interactions with others shape what becomes possible in culturally complex situations? You will reflect on the idea of group competence as foundational, considering how individual abilities gain meaning through collaboration and how organisations support or constrain these dynamics.

You will examine how competence operates across interconnected levels—individual, group, and system—and how these levels influence one another. What happens when competence is understood as something fluid, responsive, and shaped by context?

You will also consider the difference between cooperation and collaboration. How does working toward shared goals differ from co-creating meaning together? As you engage with these ideas, you will explore how participatory arts create spaces where competence is lived, negotiated, and embodied—supporting more inclusive, democratic, and culturally responsive ways of working together.

Individual Competence

How might you identify individual intercultural or transcultural competence through the CultureComp Framework?
In this task, you will explore individual competence as an ethical and relational process rather than a fixed, measurable trait. How do education systems shape the way individuals are seen, assessed, and valued? You will reflect on the limits of measuring qualities like empathy, openness, or intercultural sensitivity, and consider what may be lost when complex human experiences are reduced to data.

You will engage with the idea of subjectification, which shifts attention from what learners achieve to who they are becoming. What does it mean to encounter uncertainty, difference, and responsibility without clear outcomes? How might this kind of learning involve risk—for both learners and educators?

As you work through this task, you will consider how participatory, arts-based practices create space for reflection, dialogue, and ethical engagement. How can these environments support individuals to respond to others thoughtfully? This task invites you to rethink competence as a process of becoming with others in a shared, complex world.

Systems Competence

How might you identify system/organisational intercultural or transcultural competence through the CultureComp Framework?
In this task, you will explore systems competence and how institutions shape the conditions for intercultural and transcultural engagement. How do policies, norms, and structures influence what kinds of participation are possible? You will reflect on the idea that competence is not only enacted by individuals or groups, but enabled—or constrained—by the systems within which they operate.

You will examine how systems actively shape cultural interaction by legitimising certain voices, forms of knowledge, and ways of working. What happens when systems support collaboration and co-creation—and what happens when they limit them? You will also consider competence as something emergent, asking not whether a system is “competent,” but whether it creates conditions where inclusive, ethical, and adaptive interactions are more likely.

As you work through this task, you will explore how systemic design influences cultural democracy, and how institutions can become more responsive, reflective, and supportive of diverse and evolving forms of cultural life.
