As a following activity during the workshop, we introduced you to the concept of the Living Library, a powerful tool for promoting understanding, empathy, and dialogue among diverse individuals.
During that activity, you:
Explore Biases and Stereotypes: Through the "Step Forward" game, you experienced how privilege affects lives differently and reflect on your own perceptions and prejudices.
Discovered the Living Library: You learned about the history, philosophy, and values of the Living Library, including inclusion, diversity, empathy, and non-judgmental dialogue.
Engaged in Meaningful Discussions: You questioned why we "Judge a book by its cover" and understand how the Living Library creates a safe space for marginalized voices to be heard.
This activity encourages open dialogue, challenges stereotypes, and helps participants become more aware of their biases, promoting a more inclusive mindset.
As additional resources, you can find the PowerPoint presentation used during the workshop and the complete guide to the game “Take a Step Forward.” Use it to refresh your memory and catch up on what you missed!
Take a look at the following video and listen carefully to Ronni Abergel, one of the founders of Human Library methodology and organization, and his perspective and experience in this field.
Congratulations on your first steps! After you find out how the Living Library was created and how it developed, as well as what the goals and values are, try to remember what you learned. Think about everything you have learned so far about the Living Library and try to accomplish the following tasks:

Did you have difficulty identifying with the role you got and stepping into his shoes? What surprised you the most when you looked around and saw where the other participants were?
