Content

In the next activity, you will become acquainted with the foundations of compassion and the importance of applying it to both your personal and professional life.

Compassion is encountered in relation to suffering — both your own and the suffering of others. It is active empathy accompanied by the desire to help. It grows where fear diminishes. It is born through attention. It connects.

You must also understand the difference between empathy (feeling) and compassion (acting):
  • EMPATHY = passive
  • COMPASSION = active

You react to given situations in different ways — either empathically or compassionately. It is important to be aware of this.

Compassion and Awareness
The more you understand your emotional states, the less power they have to control you in everyday life. You must recognize that every emotion is temporary. The life cycle of an emotion consists of a stimulus (the situation, the entry point into an emotional state), a response (the physical and mental reaction time spent in the emotional state), and the consequence (the continuation or transition) into a new emotional state.

It is important to place compassion in the context of emotions. It is crucial to understand compassion within various emotional states and the connections between physical sensations, emotional states, and compassion.
Think about what emotions you have. Where does compassion fit in?

For inspiration, watch the videos below on compassion, dialogue, and respect.
