Competence: Seeing sustainability as a value: Recognizing sustainability as a fundamental value guiding one's actions.
Activity Goal:
To help young people recognize sustainability as a core value by engaging them with nature and sustainability practices in an urban park setting.
Target Audience:
Young people (ages 15-25) interested in sustainability and urban living.
Duration:
120 minutes (2 hours)
Location:
Public Park (with various sustainable features like green spaces, gardens, recycling stations, etc.)

Skills Developed:
• Seeing Sustainability as a Value:
Participants will connect sustainability with their surroundings and learn how it can guide their daily actions.
• Taking Responsibility:
Encouraging participants to take responsibility for their own environmental impact and integrate sustainability into their lives.
Activity Program (Total Duration: 120 minutes)
1. Park Exploration: Discovering Sustainability (40 minutes)
• Goal:
To introduce participants to sustainable practices and natural examples in the park, helping them recognize sustainability as a value.
• Activity Details:
o Introduction (5 minutes): Welcome participants, introduce the goals of the activity, and explain how sustainability can be observed in the park.
o Park Exploration (30 minutes): Participants will walk through the park in small groups, focusing on the following sustainability aspects:
 Green spaces: Discuss how parks contribute to biodiversity and provide spaces for people to reconnect with nature.
 Community gardens or eco-gardens: Learn about how urban farming or community gardening contributes to sustainable food systems.
 Recycling stations and waste management: Identify the park's waste management system, such as recycling bins, composting areas, etc.
 Sustainable infrastructure: Identify sustainable features like solar-powered lights, water conservation systems, or sustainable pathways.
 Biodiversity: Look for native plants and animals, discussing how preserving local ecosystems is an important part of sustainability.
o Reflection (5 minutes): Participants will briefly reflect on their observations and discuss how these elements align with sustainability as a guiding value.
2. The Sustainability Value Challenge (30 minutes)
• Goal:
To help participants identify how sustainability as a value can guide their everyday actions in the park and beyond.
• Activity Details:
o Individual Reflection (10 minutes): Participants will reflect on their own daily behaviors (e.g., waste, transportation, energy consumption) and write down three sustainable actions they could take.
o Group Challenge (15 minutes): In small groups, participants will brainstorm additional sustainable actions they could incorporate into their daily lives, such as:
 Reducing plastic use by bringing reusable water bottles
 Practicing waste separation (e.g., recycling, composting)
 Walking or biking to the park instead of driving
o Sharing Commitments (5 minutes): Each participant will share one action they plan to implement in their daily lives to make it more sustainable.
3. Group Discussion: Sustainability as a Value in Urban Parks (25 minutes)
• Goal:
To understand how sustainability can be seen as a value in everyday urban life and why urban green spaces are crucial for sustainability.
• Activity Details:
o Discussion (20 minutes): Facilitate a discussion about the role of sustainability in the city park, asking guiding questions such as:
 How does the park contribute to sustainability in the urban environment?
 How can parks promote community involvement in sustainability practices?
 Why is it important to view sustainability as a value when visiting parks or interacting with the environment?
o Group Reflection (5 minutes): Participants will share how they see sustainability in the park and how they could apply it to their own lives and urban spaces.
4. Action Plan for Sustainability (20 minutes)
• Goal:
To encourage participants to create concrete actions they can take to make sustainability a fundamental value in their everyday lives.
• Activity Details:
o Action Planning (15 minutes): Participants will develop a "Sustainability Action Plan" for the next month. They will outline at least three concrete steps they can take to live more sustainably (e.g., reducing waste, conserving energy, supporting sustainable businesses).
o Sharing Plans (5 minutes): Participants will share one action from their sustainability plan with the group. This helps build a sense of commitment and community support.

Recognition:
Participants will receive an Open Badge recognizing their commitment to sustainability as a guiding value in their lives. The badge can be shared digitally, showing their active participation and commitment to sustainable living.
