What do beauty, sustainability, and inclusion have to do with your creative work? A lot more than you think.

In this kick-off activity, you’ll uncover the bold vision of the New European Bauhaus (NEB).

🌍 Welcome to Your NEB Journey

What if the way we build, live, and design could solve climate change, reduce inequality, and bring more beauty to our daily lives?
That’s the goal of the New European Bauhaus (NEB) — a creative movement launched by the European Union to make the future sustainable, inclusive, and beautiful for all.

🎯 In the next 20–30 minutes, you’ll:

  • Discover what NEB is all about
  • Explore real-world examples
  • Imagine your own NEB-inspired idea
  • Earn a digital badge as a NEB Explorer

Let’s begin!

🔍 1. Discover what NEB is all about

❓ What is the NEB really? Where did it come from, and what does it stand for?

🎥 What to do:
▶️ Watch this short 2-minute intro video:

🖼️ 2. Explore real-world examples

Let’s see what NEB looks like in action — not just theory, but real spaces, communities, and innovations across Europe.

📸 What to do:
  • Click through these examples. Each shows one project and highlights how it reflects sustainability, inclusion, or aesthetics.

Examples:

A community-driven space where locals bring broken household items—electronics, clothing, bicycles—and fix them together with volunteer experts. Launched in Dec 2023 in Budapest’s 8th district, it was funded through participatory budgeting and won a 2024 Civil Award for local impact.
NEB values:
♻️ Sustainability: extends item lifecycles and reduces waste
🤝 Inclusion: welcomes everyone, including marginalized individuals
🎓 Beauty: cultivates pride in shared craftsmanship and learning

During holiday surpluses, community fridges in Poland—e.g., at the University of Warsaw—allow people to drop off excess food for anyone to take free of charge. It's a volunteer-led response to food waste and poverty.

NEB values:
🌱 Sustainability: cuts food waste
🤝 Inclusion: supports low-income and vulnerable individuals
🎨 Beauty: fosters generosity and community spirit

An urban oasis on a former nursery site: two acres of permaculture-based edible gardens, biodiversity zones, and community workshops.

NEB values:
🌱 Sustainability: local food production, biodiversity focus
🎨 Beauty: lush, peaceful green space
🤝 Inclusion: community-run, accessible workshops

🎨 3. Imagine your own NEB-inspired idea

Time to shift from “viewer” to creator.
You’ll soon be asked to come up with one small idea for your city, neighborhood, or daily life, inspired by NEB values.

🧠 Think about:

  • What’s a space you pass every day that feels cold, unfriendly, or underused?
  • Could it be greener, more colorful, or more welcoming to others?
  • Who would you involve in changing it?

🏅 4. Earn a Digital Badge: “NEB Explorer”

By completing this activity and sharing your idea, you’ll unlock a digital badge that proves you’ve explored the world of NEB and taken your first step as a changemaker. In order to claim a digital badge, you will have to complete a set of tasks in order to conceptualize your learning and experience.
