Eexplore the Virtual Reality in Cities of Learning (VirtualCoL) project — an international Erasmus+ initiative bringing together partners from across Europe to discover how virtual and augmented reality can create new opportunities for learning, creativity, participation, and connection among young people. The VirtualCoL journey began with an international training course where youth workers, artists, educators, and youth leaders got hands-on VR technology. From digital spray painting and DJing to 3D design, immersive games, and collaborative virtual environments, participants experimented with different ways immersive technology could become a meaningful part of youth work.

During this Community Call, we will share experiences and learning from the project so far, explore the opportunities VR can bring to youth work and non-formal learning, and discuss some of the important questions that come with introducing immersive technologies into our practice.

  • When: Thursday, 24 September 2026, between 13:00 and 14:30 CET
  • Where: Via Zoom
  • How: Please register in advance HERE.

Why should you join?
  • Discover the VirtualCoL project and hear what partners and youth workers have learned through experimenting with VR.
  • Explore practical possibilities for VR in youth work, non-formal education, creativity, and intercultural exchange.
  • Discuss important questions around creating safe, inclusive, accessible, and youth-friendly virtual spaces.
  • Exchange experiences and ideas with Cities of Learning colleagues, youth workers, educators, and practitioners from across Europe.
  • Help us imagine what comes next and how immersive technologies could become part of learning experiences within Cities of Learning.
  • Whether you already use VR, have tried a headset once or twice, or are simply curious about what this technology could mean for youth work, you are very welcome to join the conversation.
