Game design is an exciting activity. What do you need to know and be able to do to be a good game designer?
In this activity you will get to know about the vital competences for game design. Visit other activities of the playlist “GameOn: Competences for inclusive game design” to develop your understanding about competence development and their recognition through the game design process.
Here is a list of competences that game designers need to have:
- Creativity
- Artistic vision
- A passion for games
- Storytelling ability
- Wide-ranging knowledge of gaming trends
- Strong analytical frame of mind
- Excellent designing and planning skills
- Ability to work as part of a team
We invite you to listen to podcasts where we interviewed game designers. While listening, identify game design competences that they express.
If you complete this activity alone, listen to 2-3 podcasts. If you complete this activity with a team, each member listens to 1 podcast and shares about competences.
You may complete the activity and earn a digital badge by adding your reflections to the badge evidence below. In the resources you may find the handout with game design competences.
This activity is part of the wider educational effort of the international partnership “GameOn” to promote inclusion, participation and critical thinking through game design. Learn more about this partnership here.
