Your youth work system and systemic view

We are not alone in our competence development. We belong to wider systems of youth work in our communities. Just like this image of a peacock, the feathers behind is like a system behind us, it's something broader and bigger than just what we are as individuals.
We invite you to explore few essential steps:
  • What systems are
  • What is a systemic view
  • How can we approach competence development in a systemic way?
Before talking about the systemic approach, let's explore what system are.

The video below explores what systems are and elaborates on their properties and essential needs. We invite you to watch this video, as it will provide a strong foundation for your learning journey in this course.

Every social system is a living system, like a giant organism. In order to understand how it works as a whole, it is not enough to understand its single parts, i.e. how individual organs work. Instead, it requires understanding the interconnections between different parts and remaining open to the mystery of life.

Watch this video to discover how to apply and practice systemic view.

Now with this view, we invite you to visualise your youth work system on the paper:
  • Who is in your youth work system?
  • Where is your place there?
  • How different parts are connected to each other?
  • What is the energy in the youth work system, is it stuck or moving?
  • How does it feel when you look at your youth work system?
  • What is it that your system can contribute to the learning of others in this training? (Resources, CONTRIBUTION)
  • What is that your youth work system needs to learn from other youth work systems here? (NEEDS)
