Make Your Mark is a full creative journey that takes you from making a first mark to creating work that communicates meaning in immersive space. Across the four modules, you build confidence in expressing yourself visually, starting with simple mark-making and rhythm, then gradually developing flow, style, and personal visual identity. You learn how to experiment, take creative risks, and solve visual problems through play, repetition, and reflection.

As the course progresses, your focus shifts from how things look to what they mean. You develop the ability to turn words and images into messages, thinking critically about audience, context, and intention. You learn how typography, scale, and placement can change how a message is felt in public space. In the final stage, you bring everything together using Virtual Reality, translating sketches into immersive artworks, experimenting with spatial design, and sharing work in a collaborative environment.

By completing all four modules, you don’t just learn graffiti techniques or digital tools. You build creative confidence, visual literacy, and the ability to use art as a form of communication — developing skills that support self-expression, critical thinking, and adaptability in both creative and real-world contexts.

WHAT’S YOUR MESSAGE?
This is where your work stops being just about lettering and starts becoming communication.

Inspired by the bold typographic street work of Ben Eine, this module asks you to move beyond your name and use words to say something real — an idea, a belief, a feeling. You’ll reflect on what matters to you and design a message as if it were painted large in public space.

WHAT’S YOUR MESSAGE?
This is where your work stops being just about lettering and starts becoming communication.

Inspired by the bold typographic street work of Ben Eine, this module asks you to move beyond your name and use words to say something real ; an idea, a belief, a feeling. You’ll reflect on what matters to you and design a message as if it were painted large in public space.

You will explore how typography changes meaning when it enters public space. By looking closely at three of Ben Eine’s murals, each using a different font and placed in a different location, you will examine how colour, scale, spacing, and letter weight shape mood and atmosphere. The focus is not on copying style, but on understanding how typographic choices influence how a message is felt.

You will then reflect on your own message and design a typographic piece as if it were painted large on a wall in Blackpool. This is about intention: choosing words, style, and placement that turn lettering into a statement.

Tasks
Task no.1
Issued by organiser or scanning QR code
To earn the Message badge, you will create a typographic artwork that communicates a clear idea or feeling in public space.

You will begin by studying three Ben Eine murals, each using a different font and location. Choose one example that has the strongest impact on you and briefly explain why — this might be the colour palette, the weight of the letters, the attitude of the word, or how it transforms the space around it.

Next, you will define your own message by answering:

What word or phrase captures your mood, belief, or message right now?

If you were to choose one Ben Eine–style font for Blackpool, which would you choose and why?

Using your chosen word or phrase, you will design a typographic piece influenced by Ben Eine’s letterforms, your own developing style, or the wild-style energy you explored in the previous module. Your design should consider scale, spacing, colour, and impact, as if it were displayed large in public.

To complete the task, submit:

Your final typographic artwork

A short reflection (up to 100 words or a 1-minute audio) responding to:

“My message is ___, and I chose this style because ___.”

This task shows your ability to move from style into meaning — using typography not just to decorate space, but to say something with purpose.
