Sobre

Porto is undoubtedly a magical city — full of stories, legends and mysteries waiting to be discovered.
And this time, you will not explore it as an ordinary visitor.

Through The Invicta City Game, you will travel back to one of the most important periods in Porto’s history and take on a very special mission: help D. Pedro IV fulfil his final wish.

But completing this mission will not be easy.

This Playlist includes 3 Activities in 3 very special locations across Porto. At each location, your team will face challenges, solve clues, uncover pieces of history and collect the evidence needed to continue the journey.

Complete the challenges successfully, and you will unlock each Activity Badge.
Complete the entire mission and you may earn the most important Badge of all: - The Invictus Knight!

But why is Porto called the Invicta City?

Porto has a motto that says a lot about its history:
- Antiga, Mui Nobre, Sempre Leal e Invicta Cidade do Porto
Ancient, Very Noble, Always Loyal and Undefeated City of Porto.

Today, Porto is commonly known as Cidade Invicta — the Undefeated City.

To understand why, we need to travel back to the 19th century.
In 1807, under the threat of Napoleon’s invasion of Portugal, the Portuguese royal family left for Brazil. Years later, a struggle for the future of Portugal emerged between two brothers: **D. Miguel and D. Pedro**.

D. Miguel defended an absolutist monarchy, while D. Pedro supported the Liberal cause and a constitutional monarchy.

When D. Miguel seized power in 1828, Porto refused to accept his absolutist rule. And when D. Pedro returned to lead the Liberal movement, he found one of his strongest allies in the people of Porto.
Between July 1832 and August 1833, the city was surrounded by D. Miguel’s forces during what became known as the Siege of Porto.

For more than a year, the people of Porto resisted.
Despite hunger, disease, bombardments and enormous hardship, the city refused to surrender.
Its courage, resilience and loyalty to the Liberal cause would forever become part of Porto’s identity.

The Liberal forces eventually prevailed, and D. Pedro IV became one of the great symbols of the Liberal victory.
But the Soldier King did not have long to enjoy the Portugal he had fought to build. D. Pedro IV died in 1834, at only 35 years old.

Before his death, he left a very unusual final wish.
As a symbol of gratitude for the courage and loyalty shown by the people of Porto, D. Pedro wanted his heart to remain in the city forever.

There is only one problem... D. Pedro cannot complete the mission himself. That responsibility now belongs to you.

You will need to walk through the city, follow the clues, face challenges, solve mysteries and uncover historical evidence until you discover the special place where D. Pedro’s heart belongs.

Will you be able to complete his final mission?
Will you prove yourself worthy of becoming an Invictus Knight?

There is only one way to find out.
Your mission starts now.

“Porto is not only a place… It’s a feeling!”

Sobre

You have completed your first expedition at São Bento and proved that you have what it takes to continue D. Pedro’s mission.

But the heart still has a long journey ahead.
Your next destination takes you uphill, towards one of the oldest, most fortified and historically significant areas of Porto: the Sé Neighbourhood.

As Knights carrying D. Pedro IV’s precious heart through the city, your team must explore the area around Porto Cathedral and successfully complete 4 new challenges. Here, observation, orientation and teamwork will be essential.
Complete all four challenges and submit the required evidence to unlock the Knight of Sé Badge — bringing you one step closer to discovering where D. Pedro’s heart truly belongs.

Discover the Sé Neighbourhood
Standing on high ground overlooking the city, the Sé area has represented protection, refuge, faith and hope throughout centuries of Porto’s history.
Its defensive position, walls and views over the surrounding areas made it one of the city’s most strategic locations.

During the Siege of Porto, this area became closely associated with the resistance of D. Pedro IV’s Liberal forces and the people of Porto.
Protected by its elevated position and surrounded by a community determined to resist, the Sé Neighbourhood became another important part of the story of the Invicta City.

For that reason, D. Pedro’s heart cannot continue its journey without passing through this historic place.
But history will not reveal itself easily. You will have to find it.

Challenge 1 — Hidden in Plain Sight
The Sé area was once protected by medieval defensive walls.
Although much has changed over the centuries, part of Porto’s old fortifications can still be found near the entrance to the Sé area — almost hidden in plain sight.
Your challenge is to find it.

What is the Portuguese name of this historical structure?
Record your answer as your first piece of evidence.

Challenge 2 — Protector of the City
Built on one of the highest points of Porto, Porto Cathedral — Sé do Porto — is one of the city’s most important religious buildings.
Its imposing exterior even resembles a fortress, reminding visitors of the defensive importance of this part of the city.

Inside the Cathedral, you can find an image of the Patroness and protector of Porto, whose presence is also linked to the city's identity and symbols.
Your challenge: Who is this Saint?

Find the answer inside, or if the Cathedral is closed, maybe you can ask around... and record her name.

Challenge 3 — Survival in the Invicta City

Surviving a siege required many things: water, food, strength, courage, faith… and perhaps a good dose of wine!
Now it is time to explore the streets surrounding the Cathedral.

Find Taberna da Sé, a traditional small tavern hidden within the neighbourhood.
It may look simple, but there is something unusual about it: the tavern can be accessed from two different streets.

Your challenge is to discover: What is the official address of Taberna da Sé?
Record the complete address as your third piece of evidence.

Challenge 4 — The Lost Gate
Your journey now begins to take you downhill.
As you leave the Sé area, search for the place connected to one of the historical entrances to the fortified city: the Gate of Sant’Ana, which once provided access towards the riverside and Porto’s commercial areas.
Some traces and memories of this old gateway remain in the neighbourhood.

Your final challenge is: Find the Saint associated with this place and take a photograph of it.
Keep the photograph as evidence of your discovery.
______________________

Your journey continues...
You have now completed all four challenges of the Sé Neighbourhood Expedition.
D. Pedro’s heart has passed through another place that helped shape the history and identity of the Invicta City.
You are getting closer.
But its final destination is still waiting to be discovered.

For your next expedition... keep going down, down, down through the old streets of Porto.

And whenever you have to choose your direction, remember what you are carrying.
Follow the same side as your heart. ❤️

The mission continues.
