European Youth Goals Awards 2025

The European Youth Goals Awards 2025, organised by the Cities of Learning Network, once again spotlighted the creativity, leadership, and civic commitment of youth teams from across Europe. Now in its second year, the awards honour projects that contribute meaningfully to the European Youth Goals through inclusive, engaging, and impactful initiatives.

This year, four outstanding youth-led projects stood out for their innovation, relevance, and clear impact on their communities. From digital literacy and civic education to inclusive spaces and youth empowerment, these initiatives represent the vibrant potential of Europe’s youth.

1st Place: Pixels of Change by Asociatia GEYC

Country: Romania
Empowering digital citizens of tomorrow

Pixels of Change addressed the urgent need for digital literacy in a country where only 28% of the population has basic digital skills. Through an inclusive and forward-thinking programme, the team equipped young people with critical digital competencies—especially focused on media literacy, ethical tech use, and navigating AI-generated content and fake news.

The project aligned with multiple European Youth Goals, including #2 Equality of All Genders, #4 Information & Constructive Dialogue, and #8 Quality Learning. By integrating these goals into a holistic learning journey, Pixels of Change ensured that digital skills became a tool for empowerment, critical thinking, and civic engagement.

2nd Place: Rights4YOUth by PlanBe, Plan it Be it

Country: Cyprus
Educating youth about their rights through gamified learning

The Rights4YOUth project made civic education accessible through a creative educational game hosted on the Cities of Learning platform. It helped young people in Cyprus—particularly in underserved areas—explore their rights as EU citizens and understand the values of democracy, inclusion, and participation.

With a strong focus on #1 Connecting EU with Youth, #3 Inclusive Societies, and #11 Youth Organisations & European Programmes, the project fostered youth dialogue and civic identity through self-paced missions and reflection. Its continued accessibility ensures long-term educational impact.

3rd Place: Oportune by Asociatia Oportunitati de Viitor

Country: Romania
Opening doors for youth in small towns

Oportune tackled youth isolation and information inequality by creating a centralised platform sharing over 450 opportunities in education, employment, and youth mobility. Supported by TikTok and born from the Future Jobs Cup, it engaged over 1000 young people from smaller towns in Romania and connected them to life-changing resources and communities.

This multifaceted initiative contributed to #1 Connecting EU with Youth, #5 Mental Health & Wellbeing, #7 Quality Employment for All, and #9 Space and Participation for All, offering digital tools and events to bridge urban-rural divides and support personal development.

Special Mention: BETA House in MiniMesto by Zavod BETA - Inštitut za razvoj družbe

Country: Slovenia
Creating an open space for youth voice and action

BETA House transformed a local economic initiative into a youth-driven social platform in Ajdovščina. By hosting debates, creative workshops, and community discussions, the project cultivated a space for expression, inclusion, and learning beyond the classroom.

The project embodied #2 Equality of All Genders, #3 Inclusive Societies, #4 Information & Constructive Dialogue, and #9 Space and Participation for All, proving that sometimes, the most powerful change begins with creating room to be heard.

A Word from the Jury
This year’s jurors, drawn from across the Cities of Learning Network, praised the depth, diversity, and dedication of all applicants. The winning teams not only aligned strongly with the European Youth Goals, but also demonstrated how youth-led innovation can address some of today’s most urgent challenges—from digital transformation to social inclusion.

Taja Ivanc, a Cities of Learning young ambassador and one of the jurors from the Cities of Learning Network, reflected on the first place winners: "This project stands out for its strong alignment with digital trends among youth and it's clear, evidence-based impact. It reached a broad audience through inclusive outreach and shows great potential for future growth. With its replicable approach and focus on accessibility, it reflects the core values of youth participation and innovation."

These projects will now join the Young Co(L)-Creators programme as Youth Ambassadors and will be awarded Open Badges to recognise their achievements.
