This playlist supports young people to explore stand-up comedy as an art form—writing jokes, performing, analysing comedians, and sharing comedy skills with others and forms a part of Open Up The Mic training courses for young people and delivered by BlackLiver with the support of ShowTown Museum, Think Forward and funding from Arts Council England. The playlist and learning and reflection action activities allow young people to provide evidence that can go towards a Bronze Arts Award.
You’ll build:
● Confidence performing in front of others
● Comedy writing skills (jokes, timing, storytelling)
● Critical thinking (reviewing comedy)
● Understanding of professional comedians

The half-term workshops with Ruth and Keith are your opportunity to really get to grips with Stand-Up Comedy from exploring what makes people laugh, writing and performing Stand-Up and getting feedback from professionals working in the field. This is your chance to reflect on the experience and identify and demonstrate the skills you are learning and developing.
Describe: What did you do exactly what you did in the different workshops? Where did the workshops take place? How did Ruth and Keith support you through the process? What did you learn from the workshops and how did you practice them? What was the most enjoyable part? What are you struggling with and what elements are you more confident with?
You can include pictures of you taking part in the workshops, hand written notes and jokes and photographs you have taken.
(remember when using photographs as evidence, to explain what is happening in the picture)
We recommend keeping a journal of all the activities you do and making lots of notes, this will also help to demonstrate your progression.

The owner of this badge has completed the required 4 tasks required for ‘Take Part’ activity which forms a part of the learning playlist ‘Open Up The Mic’. The skills, knowledge and attitudes gained and demonstrated through completing these tasks include:
Shared their experience and reflections of taking part in Open Up The Mic workshops
Recorded and documented their participation and reflected on the learning and development gained
Reflected on the work and delivery of Ruth and Keith and how it has helped them
Shared how they feel about the workshops and how they could have inspired them to think of new creative experiences
Completing these four tasks means they have successfully provided evidence to gain the ‘Take Part’ badge and are now well on their way towards achieving the overall ‘Open Up The Mic’ badge.
