In this overarching playlist, you can explore and complete the CultureComp Academy's nine activities and three courses, all in one place. Spanning cultural democracy, participatory performing arts, and the CultureComp Framework itself, this combined playlist covers several key topics, including interculturalism, transculturalism, collective creativity and performance, and the core elements of our competence framework. By completing the nine activities within—either in this combined playlist, or across our three individual courses—you will earn the final CultureComp Framework badge.

Competence Frameworks
How does a competence framework enable you to recognise learning experiences, adapt facilitation strategies, and prompt further action?
In this task, you will explore how cultural competence can be understood not as a fixed skill, but as an ongoing, relational process shaped by context, power, and experience. How do frameworks influence the way we think about learning, assessment, and development? You will reflect on the role of competence frameworks in shaping cultural practice, and consider their limits when applied to complex, lived experiences of culture.
You will engage with CultureComp as an alternative approach—one that focuses on identifying, reflecting on, and supporting intercultural and transcultural moments as they emerge. Rather than measuring performance, how might reflection help deepen understanding? What does it mean to notice competence across individuals, groups, and systems?
As you work through this task, you will consider how competence can support cultural democracy. How might shared language help create more inclusive, dialogic, and responsive environments where culture is not controlled, but co-created and continually reimagined?

Distinguishing Inter/Transcultural Experiences
What can the CultureComp Framework distinguish for you, and why does this matter?
In this task, you will explore how cultural complexity emerges through real-life encounters, rather than existing as fixed differences between groups. How do moments of interaction shape meaning between people, practices, and systems? You will reflect on the distinction between intercultural and transcultural experiences, considering how engagement across difference can move from respectful exchange toward co-creation of new shared meanings.
You will also examine how CultureComp helps make sense of these experiences through dimensions of scale, novelty, and demand. What makes a cultural interaction simple or complex, familiar or challenging? How do these moments ask different things of participants?
As you work through this task, you will consider competence as a living practice rather than a measurable skill. What does it mean to engage, co-construct, and experiment in culturally complex settings? How might recognising and reflecting on these moments support more thoughtful, ethical, and collaborative approaches to cultural life?

VASK and Nested Ecologies
How might you explore diverse facets of cultural democracy through the CultureComp Framework?
In this task, you will explore how competence is understood across education and cultural practice, and how this understanding shapes participation and inclusion. Is competence something individuals possess, or something that emerges through relationships and shared activity? You will reflect on how traditional frameworks—often organised around values, attitudes, skills, and knowledge (VASK)—have expanded the idea of competence, while still tending to treat it as measurable and transferable.
You will also examine the limits of this approach in intercultural contexts. What happens when complex, emotional, and unequal cultural encounters are reduced to individual performance? How might systems of assessment reinforce rather than challenge inequality?
As you work through this task, you will consider an alternative view offered by CultureComp. How does seeing competence as relational, contextual, and co-created shift your understanding of learning? What role do groups and institutions play in enabling or constraining competence as it develops in real-life interactions?
